Other trusted ways to find a provider

  • Children under 3: contact your state's Early Intervention program — the CDC lists contacts for every state.
  • School-aged children: request an evaluation from your school district. See the IEP vs 504 guide.
  • Speech-language pathologists: ASHA's ProFind directory.
  • Physical therapists: the APTA's Find a PT tool.
  • Insurance: your health plan's provider directory lists in-network therapists.

What to ask before booking

  • Is the therapist licensed in your state? You can confirm with the state licensing board.
  • How much experience do they have with children of your child's age and needs?
  • Do they accept your insurance, and is a physician referral required?
  • What does an evaluation include, and how will results be shared?
  • How will they involve you and coordinate with school or other providers?
