Behaviors Students May Have Who Experience Learning Difficulties:

  • Poor organization
  • Habitually tardy to turn in assignments
  • Loses books, reports, etc.
  • Anxious
  • Overwhelms easily
  • Sloppy
  • Incomplete assignments; too brief
  • Works without signs of personal investment
  • Doesn't follow instructions
  • Overdependence on aid
  • Very easily distracted
  • Freezes up

This Causes Teachers to Assume that a Student is:

  • Lazy
  • Arrogant
  • Disrespectful
  • Uncaring
  • Not working to potential
  • Inattentive
  • Excuse-prone
  • Rule-breaker/Rule-tester
  • Uncooperative
  • Just needs to try harder

What Students with Memory Difficulties are Probably Feeling:

  • Inadequate
  • Awkward
  • Unpopular
  • Defensive
  • Alone
  • Confused
  • Like “everyone” is always staring at them
  • Angry
  • Depressed
  • Unsafe emotionally and physically
