author, columnist, educator, radio commentator and award winningoccupational therapist will present for teachers, therapists, psychologists, physicians a 1-day course on therecent topics that confront us in our daily work with exceptional children.By addressing the needs of children who cannot play or develop properly, the entire health/educationalcommunity can create interventions to facilitate positive outcomes at home, school and communityenvironments.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course will define specific diagnoses that are commonly seen in the pediatric population inclusive ofthose impacting learning as well as physical development.
Topics will include, but not be limited to ADD/ADHD, Autism, Fragile X, Selective Mutism,
Mitochondrial Disease, Bipolar Disorders, Depression as well as selected issues in orthopedics andgeneral health concerns.
OBJECTIVES
Participants will be able to:
1. Define specific learning and developmental disabilities
2. Access research for further study
3. Relate research to application of Occupational Therapy techniques
4. Appraise the role of OT in working with non-traditional diagnoses
5. Create parent/teacher friendly handouts to enhance communication between OT andteachers/families, etc.
TIME: 9AM-3PM CEUs awarded for 6.0 Contact hours
